SUMMARY:Pathways of Belonging: Regenerative Frameworks for Village Building
DESCRIPTION:An experiential introduction to the 8 Forms of Capital, the Commons, and the 8 Stages of Stewardship\nAll of us, no matter how seasoned or well-intentioned, carry assumptions into the work of building community. When we arrive to a place with its own history, culture, and relationships, the first task is not to build—but to listen. To understand what belonging asks of us. To recognize who is already in relationship with the land, and how we might join that relationship with humility.\nThis session offers a grounded orientation to responsibility-based governance: an approach that centers shared wellbeing, ecological integrity, and the wisdom of local and Indigenous stewards. Drawing from From Rights to Responsibilities, the 8 Forms of Capital, the Principles for Governing the Commons, and the 8 Stages of Stewardship, we will explore practical tools such as:\n• Consent of Place — shifting from “we found land” to “this land has welcomed us.”• Relational Governance — decisions shaped by those with living relationship to the land and community.• Guardian Seats — meaningful roles for people who speak on behalf of water, soil, culture, and communal wellbeing.• Cooperative Livelihood Models — replacing “locals working for us” with shared work toward shared goals.• The Village Test: • Who has the legitimate right to say “no”? • What returns first to the land and local people? • How do youth, elders and ecological guardians review and redirect our choices?\nThrough short teachings, guided reflection, and a closing council prompt, participants will explore how their own projects, DAOs, and community visions can grow in alignment with place—not by imposing solutions, but by cultivating relationship, reciprocity, and belonging.\nThis session is for anyone committed to building communities rooted in humility, shared responsibility, and enduring right relationship with land and people.\n
